The Mountain Caribou Project has developed a checklist of recovery actions, or "what caribou need", essential to survival of mountain caribou. The caribou recovery checklist is based on the scientific literature and the recommendations of biologists with region-specific expertise on mountain caribou, and folds in recommendations of people from across the social sectors who are working as part of local Recovery Implementation Groups for caribou.
The recovery checklist is a yardstick to measure the effectiveness of government recovery efforts on planning, implementation and monitoring. The checklist also helps measure British Columbia's intentions for the sustainability of the Inland Temperate Rainforest and mountain caribou conservation and management in the future.
